Friendly Caregiver is locally owned and operated in Winnipeg. You are not calling a national franchise call centre, you are calling the people who run the company.
Why locally owned matters
When you call a national franchise, the person answering is often working from a script in a different city, and the scheduling decisions that affect your parent are made by someone who has never met them.
We are small enough that the people making those decisions know the clients. If a caregiver match is not working, we hear about it directly and we fix it. If a family is in trouble at short notice, the decision about whether we can help is made by someone in Winnipeg who can look at the actual schedule.
It also means we can be honest about our limits. We would rather tell you we cannot reliably staff your hours than take the booking and let you find out when a caregiver does not turn up.
How we work alongside WRHA Home Care
We are a private-pay provider. Many of the families we work with also receive publicly funded support through the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Home Care program, and we are often brought in to cover the hours that program does not.
In practice that usually means the publicly funded programme covers a set number of hours for specific tasks, and we cover what falls outside it: evenings, weekends, longer visits, overnight cover, and the companionship and household support that public home care does not extend to.
We will also tell you when you should be talking to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority rather than to us. If publicly funded care would meet your needs, that is what you should be using.
