Our Caregivers
You are deciding whether to let someone into your parent's home, often to help with things as private as bathing. That decision deserves a straight account of who we hire and how we check them, so here it is.
Background checks
Every caregiver clears three checks before they enter a client's home: a criminal record check, an adult abuse registry check, and a child abuse registry check. The adult abuse registry check is the one families rarely know to ask about, and it is the one that matters most for vulnerable adults. We can confirm that these are on file for the specific caregiver assigned to you.
Training
Caregivers receive dementia-specific training covering communication, redirection, and responsive behaviours, training in safe transfer technique for moving someone between bed, chair, and bathroom without injury to either person, and first aid and CPR. The dementia and transfer training are the ones that matter most day to day: they are the difference between a calm morning and a distressing one, and between a safe transfer and a fall.
Continuity of assignment
We assign a small, consistent team to each client and protect that assignment. Covering a full schedule means more than one caregiver because of days off, holidays, and illness, so most clients get to know two or three people rather than one. What we do not do is send whoever happens to be free.
